The Five Elements: Gogyō
January 18–27

Presented at The Winter Show at Park Avenue Armory at 67th St. in  New York City and featuring works by Futamura Yoshimi (b. 1959), Kakurezaki Ryuichi (b. 1950), Kaneta Masanao (b. 1953), Kondo Takahiro (b. 1958) and Yoshikawa Masamichi (b. 1946), the exhibition refers to the ancient Chinese system of describing the physical world according to the five natural forces: wood, fire, earth, metal and water that were incorporated into Shinto and neo-Confucian practices in Japan. The individual vessels created specifically for the show by each artist represent one of these elements.
